What Is My Car Value Check?

My Car Value Check is a free online tool that estimates how much your car has depreciated and forecasts its future value. It covers 60+ vehicle makes and 800+ models, using industry-standard depreciation curves adjusted for mileage, condition, body type, and brand tier. Alongside the calculator, we publish original, in-depth guides on every aspect of vehicle depreciation — from electric vehicle value loss to regional pricing differences.

How It Works

Enter your vehicle's make, model, purchase year, original price, current mileage, and condition. The calculator applies tiered annual depreciation rates — accounting for whether your brand is mainstream, premium, luxury, exotic, or electric — and generates:

  • Current estimated market value
  • Total depreciation in dollars and percentage
  • Average annual value loss
  • Interactive value-over-time chart
  • Year-by-year breakdown table with forecast

Our Methodology

Our depreciation model is built on publicly available industry data aggregated from multiple sources:

  • New vehicle pricing: Manufacturer MSRP data, dealer transaction price averages, and incentive tracking from automotive industry publications.
  • Used vehicle pricing: Wholesale auction data patterns, certified pre-owned pricing benchmarks, and retail listing price analysis across major used-car platforms.
  • Depreciation curves: Tiered annual rates derived from historical price-to-age ratios across eight brand categories (mainstream, premium, luxury, ultra-luxury, exotic, EV-native, truck/heavy-duty, and discontinued).
  • Adjustment factors: Mileage deviation from the 12,000 mile/year baseline (0.5% per 1,000 miles), condition multipliers (Excellent +5% to Salvage -60%), and body-type modifiers (Truck +8% to Minivan -8%).

We update our depreciation curves and model data periodically to reflect current market conditions. Our estimates are designed to provide directional guidance — for precise, legally binding valuations, we recommend consulting Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, NADA Guides, or a licensed vehicle appraiser.

Editorial Standards

Every guide and article published on My Car Value Check follows these principles:

  • Original research only. All content is written in-house based on our own analysis. We do not syndicate, spin, or republish third-party content.
  • Data-backed claims. Specific numbers (depreciation rates, dollar amounts, percentages) are derived from our depreciation model or cited from named industry sources. We don't make claims we can't support.
  • Regular updates. Guides are reviewed and updated to reflect current model-year data, market conditions, and regulatory changes (such as federal EV tax credits).
  • No affiliate relationships. We do not receive referral fees from dealers, manufacturers, insurance companies, or financing providers. Our revenue comes from advertising. Our editorial recommendations are independent.
  • Clear disclaimers. We state explicitly that our estimates are for informational purposes only and should not replace professional appraisals for insurance claims, legal proceedings, or financial decisions.

Who We Are

My Car Value Check is built and maintained by QuickCalcs, a small team focused on building free, fast, single-purpose web tools. We are automotive data enthusiasts with backgrounds in software engineering and financial analysis. Our approach is simple: identify a question people ask frequently, build the most useful and transparent tool to answer it, and publish the educational content that helps people understand the answer in context.

QuickCalcs tools are designed for speed: every tool targets 90+ PageSpeed scores and uses zero heavy frameworks. We require no accounts and run no first-party user database.

How We Handle Your Data

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. We do not have a server-side database, we do not require an account, and the vehicle details you enter are not stored or transmitted to any system we operate.

We do, however, use third-party services that set cookies and collect aggregate analytics: Ezoic and Google AdSense for advertising, Google Analytics for traffic measurement, Google Fonts for typography, and jsDelivr for the chart library. When the calculator runs, it sends an aggregated event to Google Analytics that includes the vehicle make, model, year, original price, and resulting depreciation percentage so we can understand how the tool is used — this data is not linked to your identity. The full details, including how to opt out, are in our Privacy Policy.
