Important information about how to interpret and use our content.

Estimates Are Estimates

Every figure produced by My Car Value Check — current value, future value, year-by-year breakdown, percentage depreciated — is an estimate based on a statistical model of vehicle depreciation. The model uses tiered annual depreciation rates derived from observed industry trends across 60+ makes and 800+ models, then adjusts for mileage, condition, and body type.

Real-world transaction prices vary significantly from statistical averages because they depend on factors the calculator cannot see: local market conditions, time of year, regional demand, the condition of an individual vehicle, optional equipment, accident history, modifications, paint condition, and the negotiation skill of buyer and seller. Two identical vehicles, in identical mechanical condition, can sell for materially different prices in different ZIP codes during different months.

Not Financial Advice

Nothing on this site constitutes financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. The articles in our guides section reflect general industry knowledge and our team's analysis — they are not personalized recommendations. Decisions about buying, selling, financing, leasing, insuring, or claiming tax deductions for a vehicle should be made in consultation with a qualified professional who knows your specific situation.

Tax-Related Content

Our guides occasionally reference U.S. tax rules, including IRS Section 179 and bonus depreciation provisions. Tax law changes frequently. The figures in any article reflect rules in effect at the time of publication and may be out of date. Always verify current limits with the IRS website or a licensed tax professional before making any tax-related decision.

For Official Valuations, Use Industry Tools

If you need a number you can take to a bank, an insurance company, or a court, use one of these established sources rather than our calculator:

  • Kelley Blue Book — Industry standard for trade-in and private-party valuations.
  • Edmunds — True Market Value pricing based on actual transaction data.
  • NADA Guides — Used heavily by dealers, lenders, and insurance companies.
  • A licensed vehicle appraiser — For collector cars, classic cars, and disputes.

Vehicle Coverage Limitations

Our model covers most mass-market and luxury vehicles sold in North America from approximately 1990 onward. Coverage is limited or unavailable for: motorcycles, RVs, commercial trucks over 1 ton, classic and pre-1990 collector vehicles, modified or kit cars, and ultra-rare exotics with custom values driven by auction results. Estimates for these categories will be unreliable or impossible to generate.

Currency and Region

All values are expressed in U.S. dollars and based on U.S. market conditions. International users should treat the estimates as directional only — depreciation curves vary significantly between countries due to import duties, fuel prices, climate, road conditions, and used-market dynamics.

Affiliate Links and Advertising

The Service displays advertisements through Google AdSense. In addition, certain outbound links on this site — including links to Carvana, CarMax, Kelley Blue Book's Instant Cash Offer dealer network, and other car-buying services — may be partner links that pay us a commission if you complete a transaction. These links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the HTML for transparency.

We recommend these services because they consistently produce competitive offers and deliver what they promise — not because of any financial relationship. The price you receive from any buyer is never affected by whether you clicked through from our site. If you prefer to avoid partner links entirely, you can navigate directly to any of these services by typing their URL into your browser.

Our editorial content is not influenced by advertisers. We have no relationship with the manufacturers of vehicles we discuss, and we do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage of any product or service.

No Warranty of Accuracy

While we make a sincere effort to keep our depreciation model and content accurate and up-to-date, we cannot guarantee that every number, fact, or figure on the Service is correct. If you spot an error, please report it via the contact page and we will review it promptly.
